Red, White & Green

Most tulips are much more closed up than this one, which appealed to me with its 'bare all' pose. I also liked the way the red did not blend, and had a more 'cut out' look. To stop the dye from running or bleeding with abandon, I first sprayed starch into a cup and painted the tulip petals with it - two coats. The background was left without starch. This process allowed me to paint the tulip as I saw it, and I believe the result it is quite striking.....
